A formula example, not a universal answer.
Retinol can be irritating. The Ordinary sets this at 0.2% in a water-free squalane base, applied as a few drops in the evening. The brand says not to use it with other retinoids, direct acids, direct vitamin C or copper peptides, and to wear sunscreen during the day. Patch test first, refrigerate after opening and use within three months. Follow the current label and seek professional advice for pregnancy or breastfeeding.
